What are the applications of stem scells today?

Today, stem cells from the umbili- cal cord blood are used to treat malignant and autoimmune diseases and in clinical trials for the treatment of cerebral palsy, autism and juvenila diabetes in hospitals worldwide.

Heart failure and ischemic myo-cardiopathy, pulmonary fibrosis, emphysema, strokes, complicated fractures, peripheral arterial occlusion, multiple sclerosis, burns, ulcers and scars can also be treated by stem cells. Stem cells are used in plastic and aesthetic surgery and in the creation of small organs. In the latter case, the creation of heart valves, urinary bladder, trachea and jaw has been announced, while in preclinical studies they are used to regener- ate the liver and kidney in acute conditions or in gene therapies, in cases of hereditary diseases.
